Women in Tandem is a Nottingham based Community Interest Company lead by women, that delivers core knowledge and skills to empower women to ride, repair and maintain their own bicycles. They also work with many local charities, and I believe by working with the local community in Sneinton Market, they can help to empower more women to cycle and repair bicycles.

Customers wishing to buy bike accessories and other miscellaneous items can enter through the front by the main street and into the retail area. There is a separate entrance for bike repair customers through the back entrance, to allow more room for bicycles of different sizes to enter into the space. The folding tables by the workshop also allows for a more flexible and open space for fundraising events.

Section BB shows the front retail area and the workshop. This section also shows the outdoor seating available to the community behind the building.

The space behind the proposed building already acts as a community hub for the public to use, especially customers of nearby coffee shops. By extending into the courtyard area and provide seating for those customers, it can help bring the community together, as well as working together with the local shops at Sneinton Market. An example is ‘By our hands we make our way’ to provide some tools needed for bike repair, as well as charity sculptures donated to local charities, holding fundraising events by Women in Tandem.
